Internship: A window to the future

4/29/2016

Internships provide a window of opportunity to those looking for hands-on experience to enhance their relevant knowledge and skills required for a particular career field. Short term in nature, Internship is all about applying the theoretical knowledge of the classroom into the real world. Usually, a supervisor assigns specific tasks and does the evaluation of the allotted work. These intern programmes are proving to be very beneficial to every organization. Below are the five benefits of having an internship program in your organization:

1. Streamlining of recruitment drive
Through intern program a company can search a better qualified candidate who is most suitable for the job. Interns give reviews about the intern program and they can refer qualified candidates for the company. These interns can be hired for full time employment if they have proved their worth for the company. Moreover, a company can judge their strength and weakness efficiently which is not very apparent in their resume.

2. Cultivating the crop of tomorrow's Manpower.
By hiring the interns a company is not only providing benefits to itself, infact it is also providing support and skills to the students through employment and training. To put in other way, the company is paying back to the society.

3. Learning with the Interns
It is not that only Interns are getting the opportunity to learn and grow but as a fact of the matter you will also learn while teaching them and answering their queries about organisation, technology and workforce etc. To be a able mentor or teacher employees need to be equipped with required knowledge and skills in order to answer their queries.

4. Widening of the Horizons
Younger generation (or shall I say digital generation) is equipped with modern technology, connected with social media and plugged with digital devices to accomplish their task quickly and efficiently. Learning never ends, therefore, the employees should not shy from learning while teaming up with interns in order to produce innovative products and services for the company.

5. Saving on the Cost
Company can save on its costs and resources while extending this wonderful opportunity i.e., internship to interns who are ready to take on the world. Generally, a company spends a lot on its employees in terms of salaries, allowances, pensions, packages etc. but in case of interns they just need to provide the relevant exposure to the interns who in turn provide their knowledge and innovative ideas to the company. It is a win-win situation for both parties.

The stress in those days was on written learning and it was ensured that the students are taught to read and write to earn a living.

The beginning of change – The change started to happen and people started paying more attention to the way in which students spent their day at the school, the infrastructure was developed and technology was introduced. Students were given an opportunity to present to their class and they were taught to speak in public.

How we fare today – The scene of the classroom has completely changed in the modern times. The focus has shifted from teaching to development and subjects are changing from the conventional ones to those that influence the personality growth and development of the students. More stress is given to learning subjects that interest the students than the stock subjects. It is also made sure that the students are prepared to make career choices early on in life while the education is imparted to them.

Learning and education has seen great amount of changes. Online Research a Stepping Stone to Success

11/20/2015

If you are a research student, you need to remember the basic formulae to attain success. You need to remember that writing a researched document isn’t just limited to surf wikipedia or searching Google search bar.
Picture
Overall, research is the process of carrying reluctant readers, to the details of data, statistics, testing and theory. Hence you need to remember the following points while pursuing your research:
1.Wikipedia is a valuable tool, but you have to be cautious
A good researcher has to make sure that he considers Wikipedia as a secondary source and not as his main source of research. He needs to remember a good rule of thumb to verify and backup anything he finds in Wikipedia with a non-Wikipedia related source. However, Wikipedia could still be a valuable tool for research.
2. Use something other than a common search
The quickest and easiest way to find the topic of your research is to put a phrase into a search engine and dig out data from the first few pages of results.
3. Search Specific Resources
A researcher should try to go-to research tools (besides that basic search) that will extend a helping hand to you not only on research specific topics but will also give new ideas for new posts. A few of them are:
Google Trends: This is a free service that shows you trends in search activity all over the world. You get an access to maps, charts, and other tools.
Google Scholar: This tool is meant to search scholarly articles, books, abstracts, court opinions and theses.
Infomine is yet another resource used by researchers. It is similar to Scholar, a search engine that dips into the “invisible” web. It has databases, electronic journals, electronic books, bulletin boards, mailing lists, online library etc for scholarly research.

Learning from playing and vice-versa

9/20/2015

Learn and play and play and learn! Sounds a little weird, but the phrase has deep-rooted meaning for the same. When playing a game, one has to remember the basic tricks like trial and error, ignore, punish, appease, praise, incentivise, banish, and the list goes on.

One has to learn these tricks in the long run as they can be of immense help at your workplace as well.  At the same time, you need to treat your workplace like a playground where you have to emerge as a winner. There could also be an opposite team who wants to defeat you, but your tactics that you learned at playground could help you here. Here you need to adopt different strategies to emerge as winner. Here are some of the benefits that could be seen as a result of learning from playing.

Picture
Positive Reinforcement
This term indicates giving a ‘reward’ for good behavior. It includes training instructions or performing a skill. To ensure that positive behaviour is maintained, rewards could include simply commenting on good practice. It could also include offering a smile. By associating between good behaviour and positive feelings, athletes will always want to receive further rewards and will continue to behave well. So this approach should be adopted in management world as well and the employees performing the best should be rewarded.

Negative Reinforcement
The term ‘Negative reinforcement’ involves providing negative response to bad behaviour. The coaches can tell the athletes to stop a bad behavior. He should also be strict enough to say that if bad behaviour is continued, a negative consequence will definitely occur. An example in this reference is that the coach states his team that if the group is badly behaved, they won’t play the games which they enjoy the most.

Tactical Ignoring
If we stop safe inappropriate behaviour, it is like not being ‘rewarded’ with attention and will definitely lead to its stopping.
