A lot of scholars and academic content writers have trouble curating content in different domains even though they are well-versed in the topic. Some of the writers often get stuck with the writer’s block as well which is why they look for writing tips to improve their content. That is why, I decided to enlist a few useful writing practices fit for all disciplines that are commonly used by professional academic writers and have helped many young scholars.
  • Prepare the Structure
The first step to write any academic paper or article is to prepare a structure or framework of what all needs to be included in it. It helps in eliminating confusion and understanding the topics as per their priority. Linking one part with the other also becomes easier this way.
  • Active voice
Keep your sentences and writing in an active voice. Practice rephrasing as much as you can and ways of writing in different structures which avoid passive voice. This writing practice helps you in beating both rephrasing plagiarism and creating broken sentences.
  • Punctuation
Use punctuation at the right time and the right place. The uses of “,” and “;” must be understood well in order to use it. A lot of writers end up breaking the sentences unnecessarily and by using the same punctuation. Use a mixture of punctuation to make your sentence look more professional.
  • Be Concise
Refrain yourself from writing in excess. Leave that part for the authors because in academic writing, the readers want precise writing. In other words, instead of increasing the word count focus on increasing the information provided. This is one of the most important writing practices that goes well with all the disciplines.
  • No Repetitions
Do not repeat the same things by changing the sentence structure or rephrasing the sentence. The readers and supervisors can easily note these points out. Also, avoid using multiple adjectives or words which mean the same thing in the same line.
  • Varied Sentence Structure
Do not just stick to one sentence structure, For example, use simple sentences as well as complex sentences, and make sure to use varied tones too. As one of the writing practices that suits all disciplines, this helps in keeping the content interesting instead of becoming monotonous.
  • Complex-Clear Sentences
This doesn’t mean that you need to write sentences which are hard to understand but instead of writing four simple sentences which can be written in one simple sentence should be considered. It shows your knowledge about the subject and keeps your content well-written.
  • Formal Tone
Another writing practice should involve keeping the tone of your writing formal. Avoid using informal or casual language when it comes to academic writing. Keep your sentences subject specific.
  • Stick to the Average Vocabulary
Vocabulary is a major factor that puts an impression on the supervisor. Remember to keep it average which means neither go way out of your normal vocabulary nor keep it too simple as the daily language.
  • Write Daily
Write daily, even little by little, but write daily. It helps in avoiding writer’s block as well as keep you in constant flow. It is one of the most useful writing practices as it keeps the writer focused and calm while writing instead of burdening them in the last.
Reading also helps in writing for various purposes. It familiarises the writer with the writing style, tone, vocabulary, information and ideas that can be used in the writing. It does not let the writer focus on the limited information they already have.
  • Detailed Editing
Lastly, edit your drafts yourself. Go through your written content after a time break which lets you distance yourself from the work and provide you the opportunity to revise your own work thoroughly. It helps you in writing more precisely.
These are the 12 useful writing practices which can help you improve your writing skills for any subject domain or discipline. It also helps you in gaining confidence about your project.

The world was already going digital through many online courses and platforms to give students from around the world to enroll in the courses of their interests. However, this choice of distance learning became a necessity considering the ongoing pandemic. Due to the lockdown and safety measures taken by the government of all the countries, the students were left to choose either distance learning in order to continue their education or to drop out.

Impact of Covid-19 on Education System
The number of learners affected by the pandemic is not in millions but billions. Due to the guidelines, many institutions switched to online classes for students of all levels including pre-primary, primary, secondary and tertiary. Due to this, about billions of students have been limited to a small screen rather than classes.
The mode of taking classes, group discussion, projects, conducting exams and even interaction between students and teachers have taken a drastic turn. As much as it is not a healthy or as beneficial way of studying as the offline classes, it makes sure that it is for the greater benefits of the students.

Benefits of Distance Learning During the Pandemic

Safe Environment
First of all, studying through distance learning allows students to confide in the safety of their households where the chances of getting in contact with the virus has been reduced almost to zero. Moreover, it also helps in keeping others safe. In case, any of the learner or teaching staff shows symptoms of being sick, it can’t affect the other people taking the online class.

Healthy Routine
A lot of students (mostly the secondary and tertiary levels of learners) miss on regular diets and meals while they are commuting or going to study. Moreover, a lot of students and teenagers like buying food from outside which may or may not follow all the protocols of pandemic hygiene. Distance learning during pandemic has improved the intake of homemade food and the routine of eating as well.

Time Management
With the growing need and competition, parents enrol their kids in more than one course or extracurricular activities to make them good in multiple areas. Commuting and going to different institutions for tuition or activities after school can exhaust the learners at the end of the day. Distance learning has provided the learners a chance to evaluate and manage their time wisely and switch to the most effective ways of learning new things.

Tips for Successful Online Studies

Save Assignment Dates
All the important dates like assignment submission, tests, and online presentations need to be saved. Either write it down in notes or set reminders for these dates. You can put two reminders, one prior the due date to prepare for the same and the other for the due date to not miss it out.

Prepare a Time-table
Distance learning during the pandemic has also highlighted the importance of having a proper time-routine. So, in order to properly execute and give necessary time to the studies, prepare a time table. Also, remember that you have to follow it in order for it to help effectively.

Ask & Interact
During the online classes, ask questions when and where it gets confusing and actively participate in the group discussions. This helps in clearing the doubts right away and learning. It might seem different from asking in the classrooms but it is important as the online classes are already limited in terms of interaction.

Be Flexible
Do not expect it to be as good as the physical, offline classrooms. Be flexible to these changes in order to make the transition from offline learning to online learning smoother. Switching to any new mode takes time in getting habitual and thus, instead of complaining or showing disinterest, helping other students and teachers with the knowledge you have about online classes can make the learning better.
Saying that Distance learning is the best solution during a pandemic might not be true but considering the safety and benefits it provides, it is surely the better option for studying than the offline classes.
