In this age of technology, we can do almost everything online. Right from buying groceries, shopping furniture, paying bills to dating, online is the new happening place! Many people have started taking courses online, doing their school or college online as well. This is viewed with suspicion many times since scholars believe that nothing can beat the real kind of education. Since online learning is relatively new, people are not sure what to expect and how to make the most of this. Whether you are taking a short term course online or getting your degree, there are certain pros and cons that must be weighed out before you make your final decision.

The pros:

• It is a great means for those who are working and can’t attend full time colleges or schools. You can continue your job while learning new skills
• It is comparatively cheaper than traditional learning and it is easier on the environment as well if the study material is all in soft copy.
• Students with disabilities or other problems may find it easier to attend an online course rather than a full time college
• Online learning is more interactive and easy to grasp as compared to the traditional learning methods

The cons:

• The biggest complaint of online learning is that there is no face-to-face interaction. It can lack the spontaneity of ideas that are exchanged between a teacher and students in a real time classroom.
• It is dependent on technology so you must have basic IT knowledge and a fast internet connection to be able to study online
• Online classes require a lot of discipline so that drop-out rates are quite high. You may end up wasting money by not finishing class as they might not be a motivation to go to class or socialize.

The best way to understand if online learning is meant for you is to narrow down the options and think about the pros and cons of this learning method. If the pros and more in your case, you must definitely think about pursuing this modern method of learning.
