Eye is one of the most sensitive organs that requires extreme care to prevent any kind of  problems/abnormalities. Good vision lets you perform well in all day-to-day activities including office, home and even behind the wheels. Today, 30% of the population experience vision problems at an early age. Vision problems arise due to various factors. Some of them include:
  • Consistently looking at the TV or reading a book from a closer distance
  • Squinting/tilting the head while viewing an object
  • Visual stress as workspace
  • Lack of vitamins or nutrients

However, not everybody is aware of the red flag one must watch out in order to protect his/her vision. Some of the symptoms, (even if temporary), mean you should visit an eye care expert right away are:
  • Red and painful eye
  • Partial vision loss in one or both the eyes
  • Double or blurry vision
  • Blind spots or areas of distorted vision
  • Feeling of a curtain being drawn across your field of vision

Specific vision problem has specific solution. Once the key problem is identified, it is advisable to adopt the possible solution rather than losing the vision permanently.
  • Sensitivity to bright light - Use sunglasses that block 70% to 85% of visible light. In addition, you can also use sunglasses that block 99% to 100% of UV ‘A’ and ‘B’ rays protect your eyes from cataracts. Make sure you opt for sunglasses that block the blue wavelengths.
  • Burning, itchy, or red eyes - This usually results from dry eye conditions or due to high mucous development in allergy-prone contact lens wearers. Utilising artificial tears help with dry eye. Allergy sufferers can switch to either disposable or daily wear lenses.
  • Trouble with glare - Night time headlight glare is another increasing problem. Also if you work in visually demanding work area, it is better to use anti reflection-coated lenses. This can reduce glare and reflections during day as well as night.
  • Problems after using new glasses - Even after using a new pair of glasses, if you continue to have double vision, blurred vision, or other problems, go to eye-care professional prescription for adjustment of the frame.
  • Spots in front of your eyes - Generally, seeing spots is common and harmless. However, seeing flashes or floaters may signal something serious like diabetic retinopathy or early-stage retinal detachment. The only way to treat these are seeking help from eye-care professional.
Although few of the aforementioned vision problems aren’t permanent, it is a wise decision to consult eye-care experts before its too late.
